As the end of August approaches and families prepare for the start of the new school year, 20 August traditionally marks the last great summer holiday for most Hungarians. Since the fall of communism, this day has become Hungary's most important national public holiday. Throughout history, however, it has carried a variety of different meanings and associations, making it well worth exploring. When and how did St Stephen's Day become Hungary's national holiday?

A magyar Szent Korona Európa egyik legrégebben használt és mai napig épségben megmaradt beavató koronája. A magyar államiság egyik jelképe, mely végigkísérte a magyar történelmet legalább a 12. századtól napjainkig. ENG (British English): The Holy Crown of Hungary is one of Europe’s oldest coronation crowns still preserved in its original form. It is a symbol of Hungarian statehood, having accompanied the nation’s history from at least the 12th century to the present day.

The first days of June 1920 were forever etched into Hungarian history in black letters. The news of the signing of the Treaty of Trianon shook the entire nation: Hungary lost a significant part of its territory and population, millions of families were separated, and a thousand-year-old historic country was torn apart.

The Horthy era remains the subject of considerable debate in both public discourse and historical memory to this day. From time to time, political and social controversies arise concerning the interpretation of the period’s symbols, including the person of Miklós Horthy and the monuments erected in his honour. Such debates often give rise to differing interpretations, which do not always take full account of contemporary sources or the broader historical context in which even

Az 1956-os forradalom és szabadságharc, vagy az 1956-os népfelkelés Magyarország népének a sztálinista terror elleni forradalma és a szovjet megszállás ellen folytatott szabadságharca, amely a 20. századi magyar történelem egyik legmeghatározóbb eseménye volt. 1993. szeptember 4-én Kenderesen újratemetik Horthy Miklós altengernagyot, a Magyar Királyság egykori kormányzóját, feleségét jószáshelyi Purgli Magdolnát és ifj, Horthy Miklóst, a kormányzói pár kisebbik fiát.

1944 augusztus 29. -én Horthy új kormányt állított fel annak érdekében, hogy előkészítse Magyarország háborúból való kilépését. A Sztójay-kabinet helyébe Lakatos Géza vezetésével alakított új kormányt.
