Consular Reception on the National Commemoration
13th of March, 2025
Edinburgh, Scotland
Our Hussar banderium has maintained a strong and friendly relationship with the Consulate General of Scotland for many years. Thanks to this, we once again received an invitation from Dr. László Kálmán, Consul General in Edinburgh, to attend the reception celebrating Hungary’s national holiday on March 15, held at the Consular Residence. Naturally, we gladly accepted the invitation and embarked on the eight-hour drive!
The keynote speaker of the event was Ferenc Kumin, Hungary’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, who began his official tour of Scotland in the capital. Also in attendance were Dr. László Riskó-Nagy, Consul General in Manchester, and several distinguished representatives of foreign countries.
Dr. László Kálmán welcomed the guests, followed by a communal singing of the Hungarian national anthem. Ferenc Kumin then delivered an excellent speech, reflecting on the legacy of the 1848–49 Revolution and the history of Scottish-Hungarian friendship. He made special mention of Saint Margaret of Scotland, a member of the Árpád dynasty, and Ádám Clark, the designer of the Chain Bridge.
At the end of the event, we had the opportunity to engage in informal discussions with diplomatic representatives about issues concerning the Hungarian communities in England and Scotland.
