On Tuesday afternoon, 17 March 2026, a dignified wreath-laying ceremony once again took place in Liverpool at the Lajos Kossuth memorial plaque, in tribute to the heroes of the 1848–49 Revolution and War of Independence, on behalf of the Order of Vitéz.
As in every year, attendees gathered at the plaque located at 17 Lord Nelson Street to collectively pay their respects to the outstanding figures of our national history. During the ceremony, those present not only commemorated the events of the past but also reaffirmed the unity of Hungarians and the importance of preserving traditions within the diaspora.
The event was honoured by the presence of
Dr vitéz Baron Zsigmond András Lemhényi, as well as
Dr László Riskó-Nagy, Consul General, representing the Hungarian Consulate General in Manchester, whose attendance further elevated the prestige of the commemoration.
The wreath-laying took place in an elevated and intimate atmosphere, fittingly evoking the ideals of the War of Independence and the sacrifice of its heroes. The placement of the wreath, adorned with ribbons in the national colours, symbolically expressed our respect and our commitment to preserving our past.
Following the ceremony, participants gathered in the restaurant of The Liner Hotel, where, in an informal setting, there was an opportunity for personal meetings, strengthening community ties, and carrying forward the spirit of the commemoration.
