Membership Admission

CAN BECOME A MEMBER OF
THE ORDER OF VITÉZ
  • On one's own merit (if the individual participated in World War II or the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, or if they have demonstrably contributed outstanding work for the benefit of the Hungarian nation for an extended period of time).

  • Individuals with direct (paternal or maternal) ancestors who were knighted as "vitéz" (Hungarian title of honor).

  • Posthumous admission can be granted to individuals who fought heroically in World War I and II and were awarded the decorations required for the "vitézi" title. In such cases, their descendants, relatives, or admirers can apply for posthumous admission to the Order of Vitéz.

  • On a case-by-case basis, if the applicant has direct (paternal or maternal) ancestors who earned the "vitézi" title based on their military decorations and merits from World War I or II, but were never officially knighted.

  • On a case-by-case basis, if the applicant has no direct ancestors who were knighted, but their ancestors' siblings were awarded the "vitézi" title.

For the Applicant (Candidate):

The applicant must prove their direct or collateral descent from the individual who earned the merit. The applicant must provide genealogical documentation tracing their ancestry back to the individual who earned the merit, similar to how a family tree would be created.

  • Birth certificates or baptismal certificates

  • Marriage certificates

  • Death certificates (for deceased ancestors)​
     

The applicant must provide documents regarding the ancestor who earned the merit:

  • A copy of the "vitézi" certificate or any other official document verifying the ancestor's knighthood.

  • Proof of the ancestor’s military decorations, including a copy.
     

The applicant must provide documents about the ancestor:
 

  • Birth certificate or baptismal certificate of the ancestor (father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather)

  • Marriage certificate

  • Death certificate (if deceased)
     

The applicant must provide their own documents:
 

  • Birth certificate

  • Baptismal certificate

  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)

  • If married, the spouse’s birth certificate
     

The applicant must also provide the details of their children (for registering the heir’s status in the Order of Vitéz):
 

  • Child’s birth certificate

  • Child’s baptismal certificate

    The applicant must complete the application documentation, which can be downloaded from the bottom below.

  • The applicant must provide two passport-sized color photos.

  • The applicant must submit their CV.

If the applicant was a soldier, they must provide photocopies of all pages of their military service book.

  • Proof of any awards (military and civilian).

  • In all cases, copies of older documents are sufficient.
